«SELENOLIN » is classified among therapeutic selenium-containing veterinary drugs of new generation and is based on the organoselenium compound.
The active ingredient of the drug is a patented organic compound diacetophenonilselenide (DAPS-25), developed and produced in Russia. The distinctive advantage of the selenium compound over sodium selenite and sodium selenate used in all other formulations of selenium is low (one order less) toxicity and higher bioavailability.
Most of the territories of the Russian regions are areas with a lack of selenium in natural objects.
Selenium deficiency in animal bodies is the cause of more than 20 kinds of diseases.
The main purpose of the drug is to make up for selenium deficiency in animal body and to prevent diseases associated with it. The drug helps to maintain the necessary level of essential vitamin E in the animal body by protecting it from disrupting in the side processes with the radicals and oxidants.
SELENOLIN is a 2 % solution of DAPS-25 in vegetable oil and is characterized by prolonged uniform nature of body intake due to slow resorption of oil.
The drug is involved in the normalization of tissue respiration and oxidative phosphorylation, prevents damage to cell membranes, peroxidation of fatty acids and accumulation of toxic substances, and normalizes metabolism.
Purpose and application procedureAccording to directions for use SELENOLIN is applied:
- To cows in the interlactation period for the prevention of post-parturient complications (retention of the placenta, endometritis, mastitis) and for increase of milk producing ability.
- To calves and young cattle during fattening to increase weight gain.
- 5 ml to cows in the interlactation period of 60, 30 and 15 days prior to calving;
- 1 ml/100 kg of body weight to calves and young cattle during fattening three times in intervals of 30 days.
Prospects of application
New data on treatment and preventive action of the preparation to animal bodies to be included in the instruction for use indicate the beneficial effects of the drug on the amount of milk production (up to 10 %), the quality of milk product (fat content up to 0.1–0.4 %), on reproductive functions of sheep, pigs, rabbits, on livability (up to 100 %) and growth rate (20 %) of offspring. Maximal effects on the intensity of growth of up to 30 % are observed for fast-growing animals (rabbits). For all animals the dose of drug is of 1 ml per 100 kg of body weight, administration schedule is according to the instruction. High efficiency of the drug is expected in fowl for medicinal purposes and improvement of productivity.
Side Effects: ñreduction in fatality and morbidity rate of born calves up to 40 %, a decline of hypotrophic calves birth up to 36 %, reduction in cases of labor paresis, vestibulovaginitis, subinvolution of uterus up to 30 %, reduction in complications of pregnancy, labor and the postnatal period for pigs up to 30 %, increase in the number and livability of born piglets up to 18 %.
There are no contraindications for the use of the preparation in the specified doses.
The preparation does not cause adverse effects, livestock products can be used without restrictions.
The preparation is available as a 2 % sterile oil solution of DAPS-25 in volume of 5, 10, 20 ml in glass vials, closed with rubber plugs, crimped with aluminum caps.
The drug should be stored in a dark place at a temperature of 10–25 ºC. If stored as intended the shelf life of the drug is 24 months from date of manufacture.
SELENOLIN underwent preliminary tests (pre-re-gistration and advanced production tests) in more than 5,000 animals with full confirmation of therapeutic and prevention properties stated in the instructions for use in Saratov, Penza, Tambov, Volgograd and Moscow regions, and in Krasnodar region in a number of large livestock farms. The tests were carried out with scientific support of specialists of Tambov branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Livestock, the Volgograd State Research Institute of Technology of meat and dairy cattle breeding and processing of livestock products of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Science, N. I. Vavilov Saratov State Agrarian University..
Return on 1 ruble invested was 10.2 rubles for cows, 3.8 rubles for calves during fattening, 12.5 rubles for pregnant pigs, 9.9 rubles for piglets.
