Prevention of butyric fermentation, putrefaction, growth of mold fungi and superacidulation of the feed prepared using the biopreservative "Bioamid-3"
Application of the biopreservative "Bioamid-3" leads to decrease in waste of the top layer of silage from 30–50 cm to 10 cm as well as almost complete absence of butyric acid in the feed. This effect is achieved due to the rapid growth of the two types of lactic acid bacteria, which are the effective agents of the "Bioamid-3", in plant basis subject to preservation. The increase of the number of lactic acid bacteria starts in spray material of the biopreservative by means of nutrients of dry milk which is the part of the preparation. This enables to avoid milk or serum acquisition cost for activation of the preparation. Lactic and propionic acid bacteria coming out of inactive state get in the plant basis, proliferate, and inhibit growth of bacteria and fungi, including mold fungi, triggering putrefaction and butyric fermentation in silage. Inhibition of malignant microorganisms and quick feed preservation occur by fast growing concentration of lactic and acetic acids. These acids form during lactic acid bacterial fermentation of carbohydrates of the green basis. Specifically selected lactic acid bacteria that are found in the biopreservative "Bioamid-3" are able to utilize not only hexose (glucose), but also pentoses (xylose, arabinose), starch and dextrins. Activity of lactic acid bacteria of the biopreservative "Bioamid-3" stops almost completely when the pH of the green basis decreases to below 4 which partially prevents silage superacidulation. However, in some cases in particular during the ensilage of high-sugar plants the excess of lactic acid accumulates which leads to silo superacidulation. A distinctive feature of the biopreservative "Bioamid-3" are propionic acid bacteria that break down to propionic acid not only carbohydrates, but also lactic acid. Since propionic acid is less dissociating than lactic acid, the pH of the green basis is increased. Thus, propionic acid bacteria prevent silage superacidulation by breaking down excessive lactic acid and provide additional fungistatic protection of the feed by producing propionic acid.
